    European warship showing up there will have any effect except being sunk.

    Bingo! The US Navy is more than capable enough to carry out this operation on its own.

    But it will lead to fatalities and vessels being lost. That’s what Trump fears, so why not risk the lives and ships of the other nations instead?

      And once they’re there, declare victory and pull out, leaving the Europeans and Asians to solve the mess he created.

      He’s probably hoping european casualties will give rise to patriotic nationalism and layman support, but he’s forgetting that only works when you can sell the public a reasonable narrative on the necessity and morality of a war.
