I love the Fediverse. I love Peertube. Our strength is we’re decentralized. Our weakness is we’re decentralized. How do we find like instances and things WITHOUT an algorithm?
Well I run tubefree.org. I know Makertube.net is a good instance. I follow that instance. However, I trust the admins there, why not follow who they follow? Thus we have a chain of trust.
How do I do this easily though? I came up with a script: https://git.btfree.org/BTFree/PTIndex

As someone whose instance is already on your list, I greatly support this! Everyone should definitely use this list, and that’s an unbiased opinion.

It’s just my personal server for my own videos, which is nearing 1000 at this point. I’m also still in the process of uploading/transcoding everything so it’s a bit wonky still :D

So!! I went from 60 instances to over 900 in the span of less than 24 hours! Also most of the content is pretty good. So thats nice.

Also please don’t hesitate to let me know if you find any unsavory things. While I can remove it from the index, you’d have to manually remove it from your server.
I removed a couple. Mostly porn. I dont really need that for the family. But that was 2 servers out of hundreds.
I’ve caught a few as well.

So im not seeing the option for “Automatically follow platforms of a public index” after federation.
I believe(?) I found it under Settings->Configuration->Basic:
Automatically follow instances of a public index
⚠️ This functionality requires a lot of attention and extra moderation.
See the documentation for more information about the expected URLIm going to replace the main
https://instances.joinpeertube.org/with your index and see what happens.Yup that’s the one! The default one Peertube basically says anyone can join that. I’m paying attention and doing the moderation for the PTIndex so if anyone has issues with it, let me know! :)
