in Italy, to build St. Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican, the clergy sold the so-called indulgences. To find the money, Pope Leo X intensified the “sale of indulgences”. In practice, in exchange for an offering, the remission of penalties for sins was promised

As an atheist that like to look at cool old stuff I find it reasonable. Hope they don’t charge for christians though. In my town you can enter the old cathedral free if you say you’re going to pray.

They do charge catholics. Also reminder that you pay extra tax to the church you belong to and the cologne bishopric is so rich the bishop has a golden toilet

Entrance to the cathedral will remain free of charge for churchgoers, worshippers and members of the Central Cathedral Building Association.

So you’re saying they are just lying. Do you have any evidence, e.g. a different church in Germany doing what you’re accusing them of?

Right now you just seem to be spreading misinformation.

The German news articles are saying that there will be areas of the building only available after payment - not any areas you need for praying, there’s lots of historical areas in the building. If you want to look at those parts, you’ll have to take a separate entrance where you’ll pay.

Visitors already have to pay to enter the tower & the treasury.

Well they just spent a shitload of money restoring it. I was surprised it was free admission when I visited awhile back.

I went there once, very beautiful and ornate. There’s a little chapel nearby where there’s bones stacked up along the, kinda morbid.
