Probably a wise move by the IRGC. It becomes rather embarrassing when the sport teams, listen to the luring promises of the host nations, if they defect. Sometimes the weak minded athletes forget about ‘jihad’ when they are competing internationally, in particular in the Western countries.
I really doubt Mexico or Canada would deny asylum to any one that asked.
