Volkswagen issued a recall today for nearly 50,000 Jettas built for the 2025 and 2026 model years because the factory forgot to connect a ground wire for the transmission on some models, leading to an open circuit. This circuit could generate excessive draw and eventually start an electrical fire.
In contrast to most cars, that issue a dedicated “Car will now burn down, please consider stepping out of the vehicle” warning with a legally required 10 second compliance window.
This certainly ain’t great but the phrasing is fear mongering against EVs.
The vehicle isn’t even an EV.
Edit: since people usually freak out about fire hazards in EV vehicles. The danger is also quite overstated.
As far as I know there is no electric version of the Volkswagen Jetta
The average person doesn’t know cars. I didn’t know that, at least.
This possibly only applies to US-built Jettas.
