I support piracy because I think:


First they need to destroy your income, then they can make you do whatever they want


They don’t need an economy. They need obedient workers


A company in Europe has to respect patents. Same for a company in the USA. Not a company in China. Of course this has an impact. Failing to grasp this is at best naive at worst purposefully misleading.

We should be critical of our manufacturers but we should also not forget China is basically getting its R&D for free by stealing tech from everybody (all do, but some more than others).


How do you want to do this? Linux is a kernel the world relies on. It powers your car, your fridge, your satellite, your phone, the entire Internet, the army, etc. Nothing comes close to Linux in market share. The distros are built upon the kernel. System76 may have to comply, but the other maintainers don’t give a flying fuck. They could even write a small line somewhere on their repo that says “this distro is not allowed in California” and call it a day.
